Stefon Diggs of the Patriots is accused of assault and strangulation.

New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs is confronting a felony accusation of strangulation along with a misdemeanor allegation of assault stemming from an incident on December 2.
A hearing regarding motions was held at 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday at the Dedham (Massachusetts) District Court. According to WCVB-TV, a judge is determining whether to seal the court files prior to Diggs’ arraignment scheduled for January 23, which falls on the Friday preceding the AFC Championship Game.
“The New England Patriots are informed about the claims that have been directed at Stefon Diggs. Stefon has conveyed to the organization that he firmly repudiates the accusations. We stand behind Stefon,” the Patriots stated in an announcement. “We will persist in collecting details and will fully assist the relevant authorities and the NFL as required. Out of consideration for all individuals involved, and recognizing that this is an ongoing legal issue, we will not provide any additional comments at this moment.”
Diggs’ lawyer David Meier expressed in a statement that the claims are “not supported by evidence.”

Stefon Diggs firmly rejects these claims. They lack evidence, are not backed up, and were never looked into — because they simply didn’t happen. The timing and reason behind these accusations are abundantly clear: they stem from a financial disagreement between an employee and employer that did not get resolved to the employee’s liking. Stefon is eager to reveal the truth in a court setting, Meier stated.
As reported by The Boston Globe, Diggs’ attorney Michael R. DiStefano mentioned there would be a “significant danger of extensive media coverage” that could compromise the case if all specifics are not kept confidential.
According to the Globe, Diggs’ legal team is pursuing a financial settlement related to the incident.
The NFL stated, “We are aware of the situation and have been in communication with the team.” “Currently, we have no additional comments to provide.”
At 32 years old, Diggs tops the Patriots with 82 catches for 970 yards, along with four touchdowns.
The Patriots, holding a 13-3 record, will face the Miami Dolphins in their last regular-season match on Sunday, and then will proceed to the AFC playoffs.
